Food for thought . . . that’s one of the mottos of my friend, Kevin. We are connected through facebook and I often think deeper after reading his posts. In deciding what to write today, I came across his status and thought this is perfect. It really speaks to something that I recently went through.
“Ignorance is not bliss, it’s blinding and binding.” ~ Kevin A. Phillips
He goes on to add . . .
Since “Perception is Reality”, how does one expel ignorance without acquiring a variety of perspectives? To retain a new perspective one must be willing to let go of the ignorance (i.e. unknowing) of said perspective in order to be free to see the possibilities of the new one.
ignorance (n): the state of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, education or awareness
ignorant (adj): resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence; unaware, uniformed
As I read through Kevin’s post today, I realized that this recently came up for me. I think that ignorance can manifest itself in the form of “oh, I already know THAT”. This is how it came up for me. I had an “opportunity” that I wasn’t being open to because I had my own perception of what it meant. I had already decided that “oh, I already know what THAT would look like” and I closed the door. Often, the story would end here.
Thankfully the opportunity kept knocking. I kept being connected with people that were brining this opportunity to the light for me and I kept pushing it away. This past week, I realized that I should just take another look. I decided I would open the door and check it out.
In the moment of being open to the possibilities, everything in me shifted. It was a very real, very physical shift, as well as a mental and emotional shift. I had opened up and allowed myself to consider this opportunity. It has been 5 days since I considered the possibilities through shifting my perspective and amazing things are happening! I have more ideas to compliment the original opportunity and expand the potential.
Ignorance IS blinding and binding and once I allowed myself to open up to the idea of the opportunity, I was able to embrace the totality of the truth behind it.
What opportunity is knocking? What do you need to take another look at from a new perspective? Where have you said, “oh, I already know that”?
Today is a great day to shift your perception. Whatever your perception is, is definitely your reality. That’s great news because you hold the power to change.
